The cross is only able to move horizontally or vertically. Once it is set in motion, it continues moving until it hits an obstacle. The challenge is to reach the exit without leaving the screen. The game mechanics are based upon older puzzle games. The most important inspiration was the flash game Roadblocks. What sets Excit apart from similar games is a unique visual style reminiscent of spreadsheet programs. Because of this unique look, Excit might be the best safe for workspace puzzle game ever. Excit was created in the year 2005 as a viral marketing game for the German business software company MIS AG. In 2007, after the company dissolved, the game was released on the Internet for the first time. Since then, it enjoyed great success and critical acclaim. Over 2,5 million players were registered in the first year. The game received favorable reviews by JayIsGames.com and even the New York Times.
